royalty always wear this belt to impersonate the
corn god and thereby insure the fertility of the
crop for their people.
Bone:  holding the oversized femur bone
demonstrates the Queen’s ability to harness the
universal forces of nature.
Headdress:  iridescent blue-green tail feathers of
Ketsal bird similar to maize foliage.  The Ketsal is a
rare bird found only in a small area of Guatemala,
therefore its feathers were extremely rare and
valuable – it is now the National Bird of
Guatemala.

Materials Used:  Equisitum, Cymbidium Orchid,
Lily Grass, Helleborus, Flaxx, Magnolia Leaves, Ivy.

prepared it for the addition of colors. We don’t
know what colors the ancient Maya applied to this
stela -- the colors in this bouquet are my own.
